Anyone who has been to, or seen, a Penn State football game in Beaver Stadium knows the quintessential blue and white pom-poms that make the student section come alive. This image of school spirit is the foundation for this year’s Homecoming logo.
As many of you know and witnessed, the Homecoming 2010 Executive Committee revealed the much-anticipated logo during halftime of the annual Blue and White game yesterday. The logo is a blue and white image that consists of a hand holding one of these signature shakers that forms the shape of a Nittany Lion.
Veronica Clauss’s (junior, graphic design) logo was chosen because it best represented the Homecoming mission and this year’s theme: Bonded By Blue and White. Homecoming Executive Director Matthew Peyton says this design “embodies the attributes of the Penn State experience that both students and alumni can relate to.” Homecoming 2010 Merchandise Director Mike Riley made the point that this year’s logo forms a link between past, present, and future Penn State Homecomings.
Response to the release of the logo via the Penn State Homecoming Twitter account was positive from both students and alumni. Alyssa McCullough (junior, kinesiology) says the design is perfect for football season. “What’s better than cheering on dear old State with a pom-pom in hand?”
Good news for everyone in State College: there will be a limited amount of Homecoming 2010 logo shirts for sale in the HUB tomorrow (Monday April 26th) from 10am-4pm. This is your only chance to get the 2010 logo merchandise before the fall, so don’t miss this opportunity to get a head start on gearing up for Nittany Lion football!
